October 2011 Pete and I completed the best adventure ride so far, Birdsville Track & Cordillo Downs to Innamincka. Check out the blog.

I still have many tracks in the great Aussie outback that are on my bucket list;
After that, perhaps ride through Asia or USA......

They are all a long way away from Melbourne :( So to combat the long distances to these outback areas of Aus, (up to 4,000 kms to just get there) I have purchased a new adventure motorbike. A Triumph Explorer. It's bigger, heavier and more road orientated than my trusty Yamaha Tenere (which is relaxing in the shed).

The Triumph had its first service last week after a short running in period and its time to stretch her legs and for me to have a break from work, so its north we go. I have a rough itinerary and my daily evening stops may go something like this;

Griffith NSW
Bourke NSW
Charleville QLD     Evening spent at Cosmos Centre - Observatory
Blackall QLD                 Visit the famous black stump
Longreach QLD     Visit the birth place of Qantas
Winton QLD           The birthplace of what should be the Aus national anthem - Waltzing Matilda - huge history
Mt Isa QLD            Famous mining town - spend a couple of days sight seeing and relaxing

Once I hit Mt Isa it will be decision time - West towards Tennant Creek NT down to Alice and Uluru and home or East towards Cairns.

Below is a pic of my bike at Uluru from McNews.

Leaving Sat 8th Sept - only 6 days to go.......

  2. Puffy - sorry mate would really have liked to be there with you .... bloody holiday restrictions :-(
    Hopefully riding half the way to Griffith with you on the first day (weather permitting) will keep us in good stead for the next BIG 'UN :-)
    I promise not to proceed at too much of a cracking pace for the mighty new TEX 1200 !!!
